Talking about the female aesthetic or sexual dysfunction can be uncomfortable, even with a trusted doctor. That’s why we opened Spa-V. Here, women can come to us in a safe space to discuss these intimate issues. We specialize in navigating deeply personal conversations and offering solutions to improve health and wellbeing. As a result, we are seeing more women than ever in our office inquiring about the benefits of gynecological surgery. Two of the most common procedures we perform are labiaplasty and vaginoplasty. Let’s take a look at why women are choosing these surgical options and the benefits they have.
Labiaplasty
A labiaplasty is a surgical procedure designed to reshape the labia majora and/or minora. For some women, the appearance of the external genitalia has changed with aging, childbirth, or weight loss and may trigger feelings of self consciousness during intimacy or while wearing certain clothing. Sometimes the size or asymmetry causes pain during physical activity, like riding a bike. With labiaplasty, we sculpt the inner and/or outer labia to be more symmetrical and a more comfortable size.
Vaginoplasty
One of the most common complaints we hear from women is what we call “vaginal laxity.” This occurs especially after childbirth but can have other causes as well. The lack of tone contributes to sexual dysfunction and the inability to use feminine hygiene products like tampons. In these cases, restoring tone with a surgical procedure can be life changing. During vaginoplasty, we tighten loose tissue and remove excess skin. This procedure can be combined with labiaplasty to address the overall shape of the external genitalia.
Both labiaplasty and vaginoplasty are outpatient procedures that can be performed under anesthesia or sedation for comfort.
