How long does cosmetic gynecologic surger take?

The time it takes to perform the surgery is based on the individual patient and her needs. Most procedures take one to two hours.

Can several procedures be performed at the same time?

Patients often have labiaplasty in combination with other cosmetic procedures such as perineoplasty or clitoral hood reduction.

What type of anesthesia is used for surgery?

Depending on the individual patient, the surgery can be performed with either local or general anesthesia.

Is the surgery painful?

A local anesthesia is administered prior to the procedure to ensure comfort and then mild sedation or general anesthesia is required. You should not feel any pain during the procedure. After surgery, any pain or discomfort you may experience will be controlled through pain medication and will usually not be needed after the first 3 to 4 days. Ice packs applied to the area for the first 24 hours helps with any pain and swelling.

What is the typical recovery time?

Most patients return to work within 2 to 4 days for labiaplasty procedures and may require up to one week off with vaginoplasty or with multiple procedures.

When can I exercies and/or have sex again?

Depending on the extent of the surgery, vigorous exercise is limited as well as heavy lifting and sexual intercourse. At the two week postoperative visit we can determine continued limitations. It may require up to six weeks of recovery beforeĀ  sexual intercourse for most procedures.

Are there any limitations after vaginal laser treatment?

Other than no intercourse for three days, there are not any restrictions after treatments.

Will insurance cover my procedure?
Cosmetic gynecology procedures are considered elective and insurance plans do not cover the costs.
